About the Study

This research study’s objective is to assess the impact of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) on oral health. The study aims to analyze ENDS usage patterns and associated behaviors, which may contribute to disease development. Additionally, the study will investigate potential biomarkers that could be used to screen for early signs of periodontal disease in ENDS users. By identifying oral diseases at an early stage, healthcare professionals can improve treatment outcomes. Furthermore, understanding factors that contribute to disease susceptibility will enable healthcare providers to educate patients and conduct more efficient disease screenings.

If you are interested in learning more about the ENDS Study and if it may be a good fit for you, please submit the online questionnaire. The answers you submit will be used for study purposes only.

Once you complete the online questionnaire, a member from our team will reach out to you to set up a phone screening and connect you with a member of the research team if you qualify for this study.

Please note that answering these questions does not obligate you to participate in the study. If you have any questions, simply email [email protected] or call 1-888-TRIAL60 (1-888-874-2560).

ENDS study clinical trials

What Should I Expect?

Prior to their dental appointment, participants will be requested to undergo a phone screening. In addition, participants must submit photographic proof of their electronic nicotine device via email to [email protected] or text to 888.TRIAL60 (888-874-2560) before the dental appointment. The participation in this study will be about 90-120 minutes (about 2 hours).

During the study, several types of tests and assessments may occur, and potential risks, though small, could include:

  • Emotional discomfort associated with session discussions and assessment procedures.
  • Breach of confidentiality.
  • Gum sensitivity and/or minor bleeding.

If you meet the requirements and opt to take part in the study, you may be asked if the research team can buy your E-cigarette or vaping device in exchange for reimbursement towards the purchase of a new device.

Who Can Participate?

You may be eligible to participate in the electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) research study if you:

  • Use e-cigarettes, vape pens, or other electronic nicotine delivery system or device daily.
  • Have not used cigarettes, cigars, hookah, heated tobacco products in the past 90 days.
  • Reside in the Atlanta, GA vicinity.
  • Have dependable means of transportation to reach the study site.
  • Are NOT pregnant or nursing.

Please note that as a study participant, you will receive all study-related care at no cost.

Participants will be paid $200 for study participation, plus a travel stipend.
