About The Screening Visit
Each clinical trial will include Inclusion and Exclusion criteria. These are lists of characteristics a volunteer must have in order to participate. These criteria will be discussed with the volunteer during the Screening Visit.
For example, if the clinical trial is for a new menopausal medication, one of the inclusion criteria could be women over the age of 50. In contrast, the exclusion could be men of any age. The reason for the exclusion – men do not go through menopause.
This is a very simple and obvious example, but overall, Inclusion and Exclusion criteria are provided to ensure the volunteer is enrolled in the appropriate clinical trial.
Screening may include the following procedures: checking vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations), discussing medical history, having a physical exam, or other procedures as required and discussed in the Informed Consent process.
